Evolve Showerhead Adapter: Stop Wasting Water

012509remind.jpgWe're absolutely guilty of this: letting the shower run until it warms up. So we were pretty excited when we spotted this small and cheap device that stops shower water from funneling down the drain...

In turns out, in those morning minutes while you're waiting for the shower to heat up, you're wasting two-and-a-half gallons of water a minute.

Evolve makes an adapter that senses when the water is hot, then stops the water flow down to a trickle. When you're ready to get in, you pull a cord and water pressure--and warm water--resumes.

They also make low flow shower heads with the same adapter. While we're usually pretty good about checking the water temperature, it's nice to think we wouldn't be wasting any water if we did get sidetracked.

I want one of these! How handy would this be for when I'm letting the conditioner sit in my hair or lathering up for a shave. I have an old-school vintage shower with two dials (hot & cold) that require a very delicate positioning to get to the right temperature, so just turning off the water mid-shower is a huge hassle.
Gimme!

I have something similar, but much more low tech. It doesn't sense anything, there just a button (more like a sliding bar, really) that pauses the water. So useful, and it costs less than $10 CAD. I find it actually makes it easier to lather up, wash my hair, shave, etc, because there isn't a constant rush of water washing away the lather.

Read: Delicious, I have one of those too, but it leaks at the seal, so there is water sprayed out from above the showerhead in all directions! Also, mine doesn't completely stop the water... a smaller stream continues to fall (loudly and annoyingly) onto the tub.

I guess you got a better version!

Check out the water recirculation tool. There's no need to run water until its hot. It just IS hot.
