We've been running outside all winter, and our skin is starting to show the effects of winter weather. We thought about buying a humidifier--but then we'd have to plug it in, listen to its humming noise all night, not to mention, have one more thing to clean.
Then we heard about this DIY version--which doesn't waste water or electricity...

Hanging clothes to dry in the bedroom after washing is also an awesome humidifier. Or just wet an old towel and hang it to dry in your bedroom or over a radiator.

This is a great idea, I'll have to remember it when I have extra dry lips and my cats start zapping me with their static.
I had to comment because I read this through google reader and the ad that shows up to accompany the post is for America's Best Air Purifiers (I assume they mean humidifiers too). Thanks for the laugh.

i had a cousin that told me when I moved to the east coast to get a steel pan and fill it with rocks and water. she said the rocks help make the water last longer and it gets rid of the crazy air because of the radiator.

I had the same problem in my flat here in Holland (cold, blustery winters) and I found some old-fashioned ceramic radiator humidifiers that you can hang on the radiator, add a drop of scented oil and refill when necessary.
I did a quick google search (radiator humidifiers) and there is an amazing range out there. Prices range from about US$ 2, 99 to one - quite modern looking one on amazon of all places - for US$ 20.
Easy to use, cheap and green!
