Ugh, curtains. Really, given that they're just giant rectangles of fabric, they should be simple and inexpensive...but they're not. Over the years we've often used sheets on our windows. We wish we'd thought of this idea...

The British flag curtains the window in Helen & Frazier's Solar Powered Beach Shack. A particularly beautiful and graphic flag, the Union Jack, hung from oars re-purposed as curtain rods, makes a striking statement in their otherwise low-key home. One caveat: before you hang a country's flag as a curtain in your own home, check the rules for displaying them.
avoid that fine line of disrespecting a nation's flag by using your city's flag! i found this site that sells city flags: http://www.flags.com/index.php?cPath=2_8817
mine's not there (Charlotte) but some of the others are pretty cool.

Oh, I definitely did this when I was a teenager and super into Lord of the Rings. I had New Zealand flags EVERYWHERE... They worked relatively well, although I ended up putting a dark backing behind them so that they would shut out more of the light.

Bad form, old sport----to use the flags of America's oldest ally as window coverings.

As a 'brit abroad' i love that idea. I painted one on an interior door but was a hassle to repaint. Where can i find a decent cloth flag like the one in the picture?
