Ziszor Handheld Paper Shredder

3-14-2008ziszor.jpg

Not too long ago, we were out looking for a paper shredder. We were in the midst of an identity-theft paranoia fog, and wanted to be able to make confetti of our personal documents.

We bought the smallest one we could find and took it home to our tiny office.

Now, we wish we'd been aware of something like the Ziszor ($39.95) during our hunt.

It hadn't even occurred to us, but the requisite bin that came with our paper shredder is entirely unnecessary and it's actually a pain -- the shredder sits over the top, so we can't see when the bin is full until the shredder starts to malfunction.

With the Ziszor we could just shred right over our paper recycling bag. Now, that would be convenient.

Has anyone tried anything like this shredder? How did it work for you?

I have a similar shredder. It actually works pretty well, but it's definitely no substitute for a cross-cut shredder. I wouldn't use the handheld shredder for sensitive things such as credit card offers or anything else that could be used for identity theft.

The Ziszor looks safer too. I got rid of our shredder after I imagined my kids sticking their fingers in it!

This is a cool device but I would be concerned about document security. Documents shredded with a strip cutter can be reassembled with a little effort. Documents shredded with a cross cut shredder are very difficult, if not impossible, to reassemble.
