Induction, of course, is 90% efficient, whereas gas or electric is closer to 65%. Many people who rely on solar power choose induction ranges to reduce their home's energy use.

But the European induction ranges that have been on the market have been designed for European kitchens and European power supplies, which has limited their appeal. Fewer induction burners on this Electrolux means lower overall power requirements. Making do with wimpy American power is the same reason that portable induction units are less powerful than you might expect.


Electrolux makes two models, both available in black, white, and black with stainless steel trim. The 30" model starts at $1499; the 36" model, which has an extra standard radiant burner, will set you back $1699. The stainless trim will set you back another $100; we'd skip it, as it looks like it will make the surface more difficult to clean.
