The Flatshare Fridge: Perfect for Roomates!

flatshare-fridge-with-owner.jpg

You can put the "Don't Eat Me!" and "This Is Not Yours!" notes away for now. Stefan Buchberger, a design student at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna (my childhood home!) has designed the Flatshare Fridge — a fridge made of up individual, stackable units so that each person gets his or her own refrigerator space. We're seriously wondering why this hasn't been developed before. Just think how many roommate relationships have been devastated because of a missing sandwich?

And it goes beyond individual space and food choices: they're customizable, too, with your choice of skins and various add-ons. And since each mini fridge is (obviously) much smaller than a regular size fridge, each module takes less energy to cool and less cold air escapes when you open the door.

This isn't available to the public yet, but we hope somebody has picked it up! We can see this being a total hit on college campuses, or among larger families.

It looks like you can choose how many compartments to have. So if you have just two, it looks like it would meet most university size guidelines.

I could see this at the workplace, too.
