AT on... Having a Green Agenda VIP

06_11_09_greenVIP_2.jpgI have a confession to make. Some Most days, I drive a half-mile up a big hill to my bus stop. Yep, I do. Usually just because I'm running late to catch the bus, and I've convinced myself that driving just one half-mile is no big deal in the scheme of things, and eventually I'll phase out of that and ride my bike.

I'm ok with that particular shortcoming, because what I lack in unfailing commitment to eliminating unnecessary trips in the car, I make up for with my Green Agenda VIP...

My green priority? Food. When it comes to eating sustainable, local, organic, and ethical foods, I don't take any shortcuts.

In fact, over the weekend I hosted a pool party for a few friends. We wanted hot dogs, and I went the all-organic route, rounding out the organic dogs (yep, they make those) with a plate of home-grown vegetables and homemade ice cream. A pool party gone green.

My friends laughed at, but enjoyed, my "hippie-fied" version of hot dogs.

It may be because I enjoy cooking, but a big part of my commitment to better food is that it's a factor I can completely control and something I really believe in. I can choose where each single ingredient comes from, and which farming practices to support.

That's not to say that I'm not working as hard at my other green endeavors; it just means that I'm all-the-way with the food part already and winning people over with my food-related actions.

Do you have a green action item that tops the list and changes other peoples' minds? Maybe you dig recyclables out of each and every trash can you see, or you live completely car-free, or maybe all your energy comes from renewable sources. Whatever your green initiatives are, tell us about 'em.
