AT on ... Mental Checklists

I have a mental checklist that I run through every morning when I leave the house. Do you?

It's very basic and it goes something like this:

Coffee pot off
Lights off
Drapes open (for cats -- so they can watch the birds all day)
Cats have food and water
Fan in bathroom off
Lunch in hand

It takes me 30 seconds -- but I think I need to add a few things to it. Or, rather, amend a few of the items to be more responsible.

"Coffee pot off" should become ... "Appropriate energy suckers unplugged."

"Lunch in hand" should include ... "Travel mug/SIGG in hand" (so that I'm not tempted to use the disposable stuff available at work).

I should also add: "Reusable bags in hand (or car)," because I often stop at the store on my way home from work and don't have a reusable bag with me.

I wonder if posting a physical list near the door would help?

Since I ride a bike I have to remember to put my reflective belt on my backpack, pack my water bottle and snacks in reusable tupperware.

I make sure I put the herb garden containers outside to get light and water then for the day. The vegetable garden containers have to be watered as well about every other day. Once the weather stays above freezing they will all stay out overnight.

Make sure the dog has food and water after taking her out for her morning walk.

Set anything out to defrost for dinner that night.

If I'm running errands that day I make sure I have a complete list of what I want to do and plan out a route to minimize miles traveled and I have everything I need.

Keys, ID, cell phone, lunch, and my planner

and we have a "Got Keys?" reminder on the door, because thats the most important :) (our door auto-locks behind us)

cell phone, keys, ipod, wallet, drivers license, lunch? (check)
iron off? (check)
do i need to wear a slip under this? (check)
lights off? (check)

off to work...
