Hey there! Welcome to a new week at AT: Green Home. You might have already noticed that this month, across all the AT blogs, the theme is Escapes.
We'll actually be escaping quite a bit this month, which, unfortunately, can be far from green. We've got plane tickets, hotel reservations, we'll be driving here and there, and we're trying to figure out the best and most green way to do it all.
Sure, there's carbon offsetting ... but, honestly, we're new to it, and want to be educated consumers before making that investment.

I'm taking public transportation (Trailways) to Woodstock Farm Sanctuary and staying at mostly retro-reclaimed Kate's Lazy Meadow in one of the Airstreams:

I always forget about carbon offsets since I mainly use public transport. We'll probably bring some local produce to grill instead of going out for dinners.

Zipcar uses a lot of hybrid cars and its mission is green in itself - sharing cars.

I live in DC and don't own a car since I can get around via public transportation, walking, and the occasional cab or Zipcar rental.
However, I rent a car whenever I visit my family in Ohio. I would prefer to take the train or even a bus, but my pet rabbit is not welcome on either of those. I get really frustrated that my choices are only driving or flying, but I'm not willing to travel without her.
