Green Ideas: Don't Toss It, Fix It

2007-09-06brokenmonitors.jpg

Broken electronics can be a headache. So frustrating, in fact, that we're often tempted to abandon broken ones in favor of something new and shiny. However, often things can be fixed with very little cost. The only thing we are lacking is the know-how.

That's where FixYa comes in, a community of tech geeks that can help you fix your problem. When tech support can't help you, these guys can. Sign up and upload your problem to the forum, or go over and share your advice. And if all else fails, FixYa provides a Repair Service Locator so you can find a local technician.

My computer was a SONY VAIO with a tablet thing with a stylus and the screen had burned-in horizontal lines on it, and there was no way to replace the monitor, because the connection was so proprietary that the subsequent models of SONY VAIO weren't even connectable to it, so I had to replace it, and bought a Dell, which I love, so far.

What's my point? Well... there was just not fixing or replacing it, so I tried donating it, but the National Christina Foundation couldn't even find a taker for it, so I'm going to Union Square this coming Sunday, because they have a big electronic recycling event there, where you bring all your electronic stuff.
