Green Ideas: Your Own Carbon Neutral USB Flash Drive

012909_rg_usbwooden_01.jpgWe've always felt that wooden accessories are great. They are partly made out of sustainable materials, and wood is just plain good looking. Since USB flash drives are so small and can get taken apart quite easily, making your own wooden USB flash drive housing isn't a big project. It's still nice to see that some manufacturers have finally caught up on the trend. This USB drive is not just only made out of wood, it's also carbon neutral.

012909_rg_usbwooden_02.jpgThis new flashdrive is made by the British company Flashbay. They've come up with a their Nature Series, a new line of flash drives that are carbon neutral. They feature a natural hardwood shell from a PEFC certified source. The is European Maple and companies can brand the flash drives with their own logos. It's available in sizes from 32MB to 8GB.

We think that it's a good idea to make gadgets like these, because before you know it, we'll be running out of materials to make our favorite ones! Otherwise, this looks like a good quality flash drive. We like the wood case, and we are sure that lots of people will appreciate it. It's quite distinctive, since most USB flash drives seem to look alike. [via GeekAlerts]

re-nest / AT / Unplugged:

Buy some of these in bulk with your logo on them (maybe just the red squiggle?) and then sell them on your site. As a graphic designer, I rely on these something fierce, and all of them are ugly. Except this one, and it's as sustainable as these things seem to get.

1 gig would be great, thanks!
