Greenpeace Electronics Guide

Buy green. As Maya Angelou says, "when you know better, you do better." So why not become better informed about the companies who make your electronics? Greenpeace recently released the third edition of its Electronics Guide, in which they examine electronics manufacturers' policies and practices and their impact on the environment. While it wont help you be more personally "green", it definitely helps to be informed about what companies have an eye on our earth's future.

Their criteria focuses on how the companies are approaching the elimination of toxic chemicals, as well as the ease and accessibility of recycling their products. Lenova ranked the highest as "most improved", while Apple remained at the bottom of their list. We've heard this complaint about Apple before, which makes us wonder why they aren't introducing initiatives to improve their image.

According to version 4, June 2007, Apple is ranked above Sony, Panasonic, LGE, and HP, while Nokia, Dell, and Lenovo take the top three spots.

Nonetheless, electronic companies aren't going to do better unless their consumers demand better.

This absolutely could help readers be personally green. Choosing to buy from companies that are limiting/cleaning up their waste streams is important -- they produce a lot more waste and pollutants than we do as individuals.
