PlayEngine Bamboo Optical Mouse

2007-05-25bamboomouse.jpgHere's a way to stand out in cube land: the Bamboo Optical Mouse from PlayEngine. And because it's made of bamboo instead of plastic, it's a greener option as well. It retails for $32.11. Too bad we've found a mouse we're in love with, because we'd also like to make a green statement with this one.

Also included in the set is a bamboo keyboard and a bamboo monitor, which we'll bring to you next week.

I really don't mean to sound negative, but wouldn't it be greener to just keep the mouse your computer comes with? It seems that in the majority of cases, people purchase a new mouse not because what they have no longer functions, but because they want something new.

That sounds pretty reasonable to me, JohnnySlimane.

You know, a mouse is one of the few computer purchases I can think of where people tend not to get all gadget lusty about them, but really buy them to replace the old mouse that broke or really sucks, or if they need a mouse with a certain feature that their default mouse didn't come with.

Who buys a freakin' computer mouse just because they "want something new"?

I like the idea of sustainably-produced computer peripherals A LOT. Of course, I use a laptop, so it's doubtful I'll need a mouse anytime soon. But if I used a desktop and needed to replace my mouse, I'd consider this. It would also be great if bamboo mouses were the standard.
