Look! Recycled Glass Landscaping

11-13-EnviroSCAPE1.JPG

While in Austin a few weeks ago, we spotted an interesting choice of landscaping material right outside of Aviary: recycled glass. We love the sustainability factor, as well as the look of the mixture of blues and greens with just a bit of amber thrown in. Unfortunately, we didn't ask the owner of Aviary for further information (he was so friendly, we're sure he would have given us the scoop); but, we think it may have been a product called EnviroSCAPE.

Sarah Cihat's Rehabilitated Dishware

Finally! For years, we've admired Brooklyn artist Sarah Cihat's work from afar (i.e., in the pages of various magazines). And now we can check them out for ourselves, as they recently became available at Rose and Radish.

According to the San Francisco shop's website, Cihat "scours thrift stores and garage sales for unfortunate looking dishware and breathes new life into them by reglazing and refiring them in her studio ... The end result is a collection of visually interesting yet no less beautiful service pieces that also serve as an exercise in sustainability."

Uncommon (Recycled) Goods

We love websites that make it easy to find exactly what we're looking for. Case in point: The "Recycled" category at Uncommon Goods.

With just a couple of clicks, you can view all of the online retailer's recycled products on one page. According to the site, they are comprised of "sustainable, reclaimed, reused materials." Shown above are the wine case made from an old artillery box; "The Giving Tree" plate with a purpose (10 percent of the profits from this item are donated); and the flip-flop mats.

Do Just One Thing

dannyseo_calendar_sm.jpgDuring our interview with Danny Seo last week, we learned that he's coming out with a daily calendar for 2008. We love the concept so much, we just couldn't wait to share: You basically get 365 tips to help save money and the environment.

Danny assured us that these tips will be simple and practical — things you can actually accomplish that same day.

Unison's Organic Reed Blanket

Brrrr. Okay, so last week's colder-than-usual temperatures around the Bay Area weren't that bad. But it got us thinking about fall and then that got us looking around for blankets.

Although AT has blogged about Unison before (here and here), it wasn't until our recent search that we stumbled upon the Chicago company's organic reed blanket. The soft flannel blanket is made of 100% organic cotton fiber.

Succulent Wreath

One of our favorite holiday rituals is placing the wreath on the door. Now, with this eco-friendly version made up of succulent plants, we can enjoy having a wreath on our door year-round.
