Check out this Wall House from Chilean architects frohn&rojas. It's like a modern combination of house and tent. Besides being just darn cool looking, the outermost layer (and the standout feature) is "an energy screen typically used in greenhouse construction...creating...a diffused lighting and comfortably climatized zone inside..."

Sculptor/artist Agelio Batle lives with his wife and two sons in a live-work space on Potrero Hill. It's a two-story home that was originally a Victorian, but had been altered over the years. After working with architects Ned White and Derek Paprocki, the result is "industrial meets domestic" -- with green touches such as cork floors, passive solar heating, water-based paints, and a fantastic kitchen cabinet made of salvaged pieces.
The other day we went in search of an eco-friendly paint for our new home. We actually walked out with something brand-new -- Benjamin Moore's zero-VOC paint, Natura. In fact, the paint is so new that it's only available in California, Oregon, Washington, and Texas.
AT:SF, I recently read somewhere that handwashing silks and cashmere is better than drycleaning. Do you guys do this? If yes, do you use any special soap for it?

The Margarido House has been in the news a lot lately. It's no wonder -- it's virtually certain that the 4,600-square foot Oakland home will be the first in Northern California to win the LEED-H Platinum rating.
