PB&J. Where would we be without it?

We pack sandwiches to work at least 4 days a week, so about a year ago we switched from Ziploc plastic bags to reusable plastic sandwich containers.

But then along came BPA concerns, and now we look at those plastic sandwich holders with a heavy dose of skepticism. We don't feel so good about using them anymore.

We saw these Wrap-N-Mat's ($6.95) at Elephant Pharmacy last night. We didn't buy one, but we seriously considered it. And, we imagine that we will buy one before too long. We like them because they aren't plastic, they're reusable, and they serve as both a sandwich wrapper and a nice little mat that'll keep crumbs off your desk.

We were wondering if any readers use these and what they think. The reviews at ReusableBags.com are overwhelmingly positive.

They're nice, except they're not machine washable (the plastic liner rips). So a little inconvenient.

And here's a "plug" from their website:

(Concerned about plastic? A great customer suggestion is to wrap sandwiches with biodegradable wax paper inside the Wrap-N-Mat)

So why not just use the waxed paper, and save the $6.95?

BPA concerns... really? Are you microwaving your sandwich? It isn't something that will just leech out into your sandwich bread.

These would be super easy to sew yourself out of an old t-shirt or something. But I do love ReusableBags.com for their incredible selection of bottles that you can search by style (wide mouth, stainless, etc.)

They are lined with a food-grade plastic (I don't know what), so if you wanted to sew one you'd have to find that stuff. We use them every day. I wash the plastic side with a dish sponge and let it dry in the drainer. My 3-year-old loves his. I think most places charge $10-14, so $6.75 is a great deal.

I have them and love them. I thought about sewing my own, but the idea of having to hunt for food-grade plastic just made me want to go purchase them even more. Like the previous poster I just sponge wash the plastic side and let it drip dry. I've brought them when hiking or just bringing a snack along for a long day in the city.

They are wonderful for wrapping any sort of lunch item I would normally toss into a zip bag, including pretzels, crackers, dry cereal for snacking, cookies, trail mix or what have you.
