In this month's issue of Common Ground, Jeanne Storck writes about how to renovate your home without spending thousands of dollars, and without hiring a team of people.
Renovation can mean something as simple as organizing, or trying a new coat of zero-VOC paint in the kitchen.
Our favorite quote in the article comes from Seana Hansen, author of the blog eco-organizer.com: “the whole concept of organizing — purging what you don’t need, being spatially aware in your personal environment — is fundamentally eco-friendly. It encourages efficiency, conservation and simplicity.”

We are currently ~ and probably constantly ~ working on purging/organizing. I can see how it helps you become more earth-friendly.

This rings so true. We majorly organized/decluttered our house a year ago, and it was amazing to see just how many energy leaks we had. Random things that were plugged in that we never ever used (the broken VCR, for example...not to mention the 2 "spare" computers and beastly monitors we never used). It also gave us a chance to donate things we didn't really need. Why plug an alarm clock in beside our bed, when our telephone - also situated on the night stand - has an alarm feature.
We also found lots of items that we didn't realize we had...and likely would have repurchased. It was like Christmas. ;) Keeping the house organized means that I no longer need to rush out and buy a new pair of nail clippers when they inevitably go missing. We found 5 pairs when we did our major organization session.
A lot of green awareness comes out in a major declutter organization.

I, like xoBeau, am constantly in a state of purging/organizing. It helps keep things running smoothly, even if it's just a matter of cleaning and organizing the fridge and pantry.
There's a reason the Organization shows and businesses are so popular!
