There are some green and, obviously, simple summertime tips for staying cool in the July issue of Real Simple.
Because, let's face it: Whether you're dealing with sticky southern humidity or a dry desert heat, surviving the summer without overloading the power grid is always a challenge.
Luckily, 20 of Real Simple's 23 tips are energy-smart alternatives to running the AC.
Cool-down methods range from the obvious (take off your shoes!) to the more ingenious (make an energy efficient air conditioner with a fan and a bowl of ice cubes).
We especially like counterintuitive suggestion # 16: Eat more spicy food. We plan on testing that one out tonight!
