Blogging the Washington Post: Putting a Windmill in the Backyard

8_22_2008-coal.jpgThe couple in the image above, tired of fighting a losing battle against a coal-fired power plant that is practically in their own backyard, decided to do something proactive. They're going to install a windmill right in their own backyard, "just past the private beach and tiki bar."

To convince the neighbors and the county zoning board, Ken Robinson created a slideshow set to music. (It starts automatically.) It seems to have worked. Last week, he got approval to construct a wind turbine that should provide 25 to 40 percent of the power for his house.

We're glad to see individuals moving forward on renewable power—and getting creative about how to get the message out.

Way to go! Instead of griping at the windmills in the neighborhood, they are installing one on their own place and even getting people to like it.
