Blogging Wired: "Condo Architect Angles for Energy Savings With Tilted-Window Design"

8-13-2007wired.jpgLucky you, Chicago! According to an article in the August issue of Wired, this fantastically space-age, green condo complex is coming to Hyde Park.

At first glance, it looks like it might fall over, which is the point. The angled nature of the building creates its own shade.

And by doing that, in the summertime the building's air-conditioning will be needed less, resulting in less overall energy usage.

Architect Jeanne Gang used a computer model to find the exact angle at which the building would sufficiently shade itself, but not shade itself too much.

We think it's smart, and love to see this sort of thinking. As radical as it looks, it's really a relatively simple concept and totally functional design.

Sweet! I live in Hyde Park and am thinking of buying in the next year. It looks just weird enough to be perfect for me, as long as, y'know, it doesn't tip over.
