Geos: "The First Fossil Fuel Free Community in the USA"

8_27_2008-geos-landuseplan2.jpgIt's one thing to make a few green changes around your own house. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in an entire neighborhood of green-minded people? That's likely to happen at Geos in Arvada, Colorado, which is touting itself as the first fossil-fuel free community in the US...

Critics of Geos point out that the location of the development will make it hard for the residents to live a truly fossil-fuel free lifestyle because the closest public transportation is a mile away. Can a green home make up for an inefficient location?

I don't think so. I don't have the exact statistic, but I seem to remember hearing that we use just as much energy for transportation as we do in our buildings. Cutting out 50% is admirable, but you can't pretend it's the whole equation.
