Is It All About the Money?

8_5_2008-windturbinecon.gifWould you install a wind turbine even if it doesn't make economic sense? The over 3600 answers to this question are all over the map...

The discussion was posted over at the New York Times blog. To some, if a wind turbine doesn't make economic sense, then it is necessarily a status symbol. Others view their expenditure on alternative energy as the morally correct choice. And still others think the question misses the mark entirely.

It's a fascinating window into all the different motivations people have for going green.

Comments are closed at the NYT, but we're interested to know where re-nest readers come down on this question. What's your opinion? Is it worth it to spend more on alternative sources of energy, even if you will never break even?

I agree that at this point it's status symbol. It'd would also be a better use of limited resources to have a large install of windmills/other green power generation eqpmt that could supply a large no. of people instead of one household.
