This month’s issue of Natural Home features an 836 square foot straw bale home made primarily with salvaged materials. Below reused barn wood planks resides a sunken dining table with built-in seating. When the table’s not in use the planks cover the dining area and the space is converted back to a living room.

The shower features a removable floor grate that covers a 5-foot deep sunken bathtub. The circular redwood shower also serves as the visual centerpiece of the living room.

• passive solar plan
• post and beam with straw bale infill construction
• cellulose and recycled denim insulation
• wheatboard millwork
• salvaged beetle killed pine window sills
• built-in shelving
• deep windows
• salvaged millwork, appliances, tiles, windows and doors.
• vegetable garden and home raised chickens, pigs, cows and geese
• a converted silo to house the owner’s studio and workshop
