Solar Industry Growth Dimming with Economy
Blogging San Francisco Chronicle 01.20.2009

1-21-2009solar.jpgDespite the seriously depressing economy, up until just recently the solar industry seemed to be doing pretty well.

However, it looks like things aren't quite as bright as we'd hoped.

According to an article in yesterday's San Francisco Chronicle, the solar industry is starting to feel some of the pains of this recession. Proof? A bay area solar company just announced 290 job cuts.

We're not completely surprised -- most buyers finance their solar arrays, but borrowing money these days is obviously not as easy as it once was. Still, as bad as the news looks, just like the Chronicle, we're wondering what our new president's job creation plan will do to pick solar up out of its slump.

Meanwhile, the Chronicle is optimistic: The question is not whether the field will grow, but whether it will grow faster or slower - and with what subsidies.

Are you optimistic?
