We've spent a pleasant hour sipping coffee and reading through the different sections on greenhomeguide.org. This is the new-ish website put up by the U.S. Green Building Council to promote LEED for Homes, their new set of standards. We found good resources for those thinking about a renovation, and for those who just want to tune up the place they are already.

- We're familiar with many of these retrofit tips, but it's great to see them on a short, succinct list. We're reprogramming our thermostat this afternoon. And did you know that changing just five frequently used light bulbs to CFLs can save you $100 a year in electricity?
- We've heard a rumor that LEED for homes is only for single-family homes. Turns out that's not true. Want proof? Check out the project profiles page and download the PDF for the Morrisania Homes project in the Bronx. We like the focus on how green building saves money in the long run. A 30% cut in utility bills is a big one for low-income folks.
- And for those thinking of a project, check out the incentives in your area first. You may have more opportunity than you realize to build green.
