If you don't have any ideas of your own, you could check out the Bay Area water agencies' conservation campaign, "Water Saving Hero."
Sure, it's a little cheesy, but we really like the whole superhero motif and we especially like all the real conservation tips. We also like the roundup of water conservation rebate programs.
(There are also all sorts of ideas on where to get free schwag that'll help you cut back on your water usage: like toilet flappers, low-flow shower heads, etc.)
Oh, and you don't need to be in the Bay Area to get something out of this site -- I mean, we can all use more conservation tips, right?

mrs - you can put a brick or two in the water tank. I can remember my parents doing this in the 70's in California when the drought was bad.

You can just fill a plastic soda bottle with water.

"You could wash your dishes to save water..." This is simply not true as stated. I'm not sure why it was posted.

From National Geographic:
KITCHEN
Hand wash vs. Dishwasher: You'll use up to 35 percent less water by doing a full load of dishes, which haven't been pre-rinsed, in your dishwasher instead of by hand. You can also save about 15 percent on total dishwasher energy use if you select the air-dry setting or open the dishwasher's door instead of using its drying cycle.

SMM thanks for the info. I can't leave the door open after they have been washed... my dog would lick the plates.
