apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Low Impact Living Impact Calculator

Yes, it's another footprint calculator -- and this time it comes from Low Impact Living and this time it focuses almost exclusively on your home.

We generally pass these calculators by, but we have to admit that they're a good way of keeping tabs on what we are and aren't doing on a day to day basis.

Our LILI score was 43. But we're thinking it's probably a little off -- because we don't own our apartment, we had to guess on quite a few of the answers (especially about ages of our appliances, etc -- and well, maybe we were a little too optimistic about how old that furnace really is).

We think we did well because our apartment is small and the two of us share one car.

We think this particular footprint calculator would be pretty great for a homeowner. At the end of the survey there is a list of suggested home improvements along with the annual savings and environmental impact associated with each one. A lot of them are things that we cannot do as renters -- but it's helpful to look through them anyway.

You can even create a profile and log back in to amend portions of the quiz as you make improvements -- then watch your score fall.

Give it a shot and let us know what you think.

Interesting calculator. I took it and scored a 40. However, I also rent, so it was hard to calculate some of the areas. But a good resource!

Thanks for the tip, I blogged about it too :)

I got a 27, but I also may have (unintentionally)
mis-answered some of the questions because I also don't know all of the info about my apartment building.

Too bad it's not available for non-US residents. :(
