Recycled Glass Driveway by Filterpave

Instead of a concrete or gravel driveway, the Cordell Shipping Container House has a driveway made out of recycled glass. It's called Filterpave, a combination of granite and 100% post consumer waste glass in a resin binder...

Filterpave is a porous pavement system designed to allow rainwater to percolate through, reducing storm run-off while absorbing hydrocarbons (oils leaked from your car, perhaps?).

According to the developer of the Cordell Shipping Container House, "[Filterpave] achieves the consistency of caramel popcorn, for lack of a better description, so it has voids that allow surface water to percolate through."

Unfortunately, it looks like the demand for the product is such that it won't be available for regular consumers. My local landfill offers crushed glass that's been tumbled to remove the sharp edges that's available for less than the cost of gravel. If only there was a DIY resin binder around ...

I would love to see the finished drive.

In my hometown there is an entire bike trail made of a similar (and not so successful) material. Over time, shards of glass began popping out of the surface. Dogs cut their feet... you know the rest.
