Outdoor showers aren't necessarily green by default, but it could be argued that it keeps the mess outside (reducing cleaning) and a low flow shower head is certainly more efficient than using your garden hose to rinse off. Regardless, these 7 outdoor showers are sure to have you dreaming of spending time outside...

have you never been to the beach?
in the summer I'd take an outdoor shower over an indoor one any day... though I do prefer the ones with a little privacy :)

This would be amazing if you had your private backyard and nice weather all the time. I love spending as much time as possible outside though...

ummmm... first poster: I live at the beach, in a warm climate, and if there wasn't something outside to rinse off with (aka my outdoor shower), the trail of sand and salt water from my front door to the nearest indoor shower would be a daily cleaning nightmare.
Please, have a little imagination before posting snarky comments.

Makes sense in any warm climate for folks who spend a lot of time working (or working up a sweat) outdoors and who have (or can arrange) a private spot.

An outdoor shower is bliss.

I have an outdoor shower and I love it! It's the only place we shower in the late spring through late fall. It makes having only one bath much easier. It is tucked into a nook in our backyard, just off of our actual bath. A friend of ours plumbed it for hot and cold water. We built a deck and fencing around it as well. I seem to recall the decking is about a 6x6 square so it feels very open and spacious. It's simple, effective, and makes me very happy. I can see all the baby birds being fed in the morning. I watch the growth of the pine cones over the summer. And my azaleas get a regular watering with the grey water.
We initially put it in just to be able to rinse off after mowing or weed wacking rather than tracking all that muck in, but now we use it regularly. It is truly a delightful luxury at our place.

Most homes at the Jersey Shore have an outdoor shower -- most with walls & a door, but no roof. You can put 3 or 4 kiddies in there, get the suits off, rinse off the little bottoms and get them inside without tracking any sand into the house. Also, I have found few things more relaxing than showering with the warm sun shining in on me, then wrapping up in a towel or robe and falling into a lounge chair outside. I have been known to stretch the 'outdoor shower season' well into the fall.

On Cape Cod, our outdoor shower has a limited season, but I have to echo the commenter who said showers outside are bliss! There is nothing better than a morning shower with the sun shining, birds singing, etc. Plus, no hot steamy bathroom!

Outdoor showers are HEAVEN. I spend the summer on Martha's Vineyard and we have an outdoor shower that has walls around it so you don't feel exposed. But there's truly nothing lovelier than taking a shower while looking up at the blue sky, the leaves in the trees as they wave... One time I even spotted a deer strolling by off in the woods in the distance. (FYI: I'm tall, the walls are enough for privacy, but low enough to see over!).
Showers without walls are for post-swimming rinses in bathing suits and for exhibitionists or, I guess, if you have no neighbors! But the ones in this article do look amazing.

oh my gosh, these look heavenly. The only taste of an "outdoor shower" i've ever gotten was when I was working at an artists colony in germany where the shower was cold water sprayed behind a private wooden-fence area.
