Best Product: Seventh Generation Free & Clear Glass & Surface Cleaner

08-23-2007glass cleaner.jpgThe hunt is over. This stuff really works.

Searching for the perfect green cleaning product can be a long and arduous task. While there are many good green cleaning products on the market, finding one that seriously holds its own against its traditional counterpart is priceless.

Seventh Generation Glass & Surface Cleaner could take on Windex any day.

We've been using it for about three years now. And believe us, in order to make the switch we had to break a serious Windex addiction.

We're not kidding. We were like that dad on My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding. If we had an ailment, we assumed Windex would probably fix it. It was not healthy.

The fact that Seventh Generation's Glass Cleaner makes our bathroom mirrors and kitchen windows sparkle, no matter how thick the gunk, and leaves no streaks, makes us want to do cartwheels; even now, years after we discovered it.

Speaking of green cleaning products, reader Liz just tipped us off to her new green cleaning blog, The Green Clean Review. It's still in its infancy, but looks like it will offer all kinds of good information on the subject. Check it out!

What's y'alls' go -to for eco-friendly dish soap? I can't find one that I really, really like: too little suds, too little cleaning power.... Anything really great out there?

Apple cider vinegar works really well, too. That's what my mom always used on glass and mirrors.

Although Nora,I think I prefer the Method cucumber dish soap to the Seventh Generation....

Has anyone tried the shower cleaner?

Ive used Method's shower cleaner, and its good for generic cleaning, but getting off caked on calcium/rust is very difficult without a mildly abrasive brush. But it does work. However, I sometimes question the germ-killing it does, so sometimes I use a bit of tea tree oil on spots where I want to make sure everything is dead, dead dead - as I live in a house with people of many allergies.

Any kind of vinegar works well on glass/mirrors, including super cheap white vinegar. That's nice that the 7thGeneration stuff makes you so happy tho . . . I hate the smell of Windex!

Way to drive the guests out of your home: Windex the coffee table while they're sitting there.

Vinegar with crumpled newsprint - this is what I was taught years ago by my photography teacher for cleaning the glass before framing and it's what I do on all my windows. The newsprint doesn't leave fuzzies like a cloth does.

I like the Seventh Generation dish soap... the glasses really sparkle when I'm done and it's great at the grease cutting without leaving my hands chapped when I'm done.

Hm, 7th Gen., TJ's, and Method: I feel a Dish Soap Battle Royale coming on.....

I like 7th Generation's dish soap but not their actual dishwasher liquid - never seemed to work very well. For my dishwasher I like the Trader Joe's powdered dish detergent, it seems to work much better.
