Blogging the LATimes... Products Derived from Natural, Nontoxic Ingredients are now Mainstream

9_15_2008-house.jpgIt was the interactive diagram of a house that hooked us... what's that orange dot lurking in the bathroom? Sodium dicholoroisocyanurate, of course...

The larger point of the article is that companies are working overtime to change the formulas of everyday products, from shampoo to toilet cleaner, to naturally-derived chemical ingredients.

If you read on (it's quite a long article) you'll find out that Johns Manville fiberglass insulation is formaldehyde free... and that Owens Corning is not. We're excited to see that in many cases the petroleum-derived chemicals in products can be replaced with less toxic natural alternatives, but we would have liked to see a bit more questioning of our over-consumption of chemicals... do we really need liquid toilet bowl cleaner? Elbow grease, of course, is the greenest and most natural chemical of them all.
