Recycled Paper Hamper from Pier 1

We tend to save beautiful paper and this $80 hamper is made from colorful strips of recycled paper and magazines sewn together. We love the subtle but colorful design...

Has anyone seen this in person? While the material is recycled, is there a heavy varnish or lacquer (the product description is vague)?

Oh, I have been lusting after this one for a while...but I'm not crazy about paying $80 for a hamper...I'll wait until it goes on sale...or DIY????
