Here is the reverse of the washup toilet and washing machine combo. And by reverse we don't mean the toilet water is being used to wash your clothes. Yuck. We are talking a sink and washer combined in a very small footprint for compact living spaces.

It's not clear if there is some sort of water purification happening here or if the space saving aspect is the only benefit, but if both were true, this would be a perfect solution for a space challenged apartment. When you go to take a shower, your dirty clothes can go directly into the machine rather than being moved from hamper (or floor depending on your style) to washer.

Interesting. Am I to assume, then, that this is something that would go into the bathroom?
Is the only water going into it from the sink? I guess it depends on how often you wash your hands, but I think it would use extra new water to finish the load for the rinse, in which case purification wouldn't really be a big issue.
I'm not sure how well it would work (not an easy retrofit I'm sure) but it's certainly the sort of out-of-the-box thinking that leads to good green design.
