Zyliss Easy Slice 2 Folding Mandoline

5_22_2008-mandoline.jpgThere are a few kitchen tools we can't live without, and a mandoline is one of them. This one, featured in this month's issue of Fine Cooking, folds up for easy and space-saving storage. While we'd like to see less plastic and more use of recyclable materials, we're liking the compact size...

...and that it's all one piece, which means there aren't tons of sharp pieces littering a drawer. A knob controls the height of the blade. You can buy it online for $35 at Kitchen Collection. Check out four more space-saving products over at Fine Cooking.

Considering the metal ones cost over 4X as much, a little plastic gadget that's well designed, durable and useful isn't a bad thing.

We are on the fence about purchasing a mandolin. We have the vegetable slicing attachments for the kitchenaid (made of plastic and metal) and for now they seem to meet any needs we have.

I recently purchased this mandoline from Amazon and I'm totally enamored. I mean for $26 you can not beat this deal. It even comes with a little case to keep the extra blades in so they're not rolling around your gadget drawer. Plus it's metal and folds up when not in use! Score!

So this is a post about a plastic knick-knack that isn't necessary and features neither inventive use of recycled materials or some aspect that will reduce energy.

How, exactly, does this in any way qualify for inclusion on re-nest? Isn't this supposed to be a "green" website instead of just another "stuff" website?
