22 New Uses for Old CDs
Interbent

We uploaded our CDs to our computer, sold some and gave away some but still, we were left with a good handful. What could we do with them besides toss them?

  • An a IPod dock
  • Make a lamp...or two
  • Use them as shower curtain rings
  • Affix them to your wall for a shiny nod to the disco 80s
  • Or, of course, you can toss them on a table for use as a coaster.

ugh. i'm so over this style of "upcycling". It just looks like garbage. just send them to be recycled already ... i believe re-nest even posted on how to do that already!!!

You can create a decorative mobile http://bit.ly/rDbCz, or shatter a bunch of them into little bits and use them to mosaic your heels http://bit.ly/eXiDM which looks way cool! Also, the reflection that they create scares off critters, so just string them around the perimeter of your garden for natural pest control.

I'm shuttering at the idea of using a perfectly good CD for anything other than listening to. You are REALLY gonna regret letting go of some of those CDs in the years to come...just like how people gave away "outdated" vinyl LPs that now sell for hundreds....

abc123, I don't know about you, but I have a heap of CDs that aren't music, they're crappy free software, or old versions of programs I now have newer versions of, or data backups I don't need, etc etc etc. I also have "sample" CDs that have come with the newspaper that have promotions for TV shows, etc.

I don't think anyone's suggesting you should upcycle/recycle CDs that are working music CDs - even if you don't want them, someone will.

I'm an e-waste recycler, and one of the hardest things to process is CDs (at least here in South Africa). They're not mere plastic, which makes it hard to do much of anything with them, and there are currently no companies who do here. Any creative way of reusing them (without them looking like junk) is very welcome!
