A Bench of Nails by Sculptor Jae-Hyo Lee

Sleeping on a bed of nails might be more comfortable than you initially thought. Check out this creative bench after the jump...

This bench began as a solid slab of wood into which hundreds of nails were hammered and then carefully bent. The surface was then scorched to achieve the black patina and the nails ground down to expose the silver inside (which, I also imagine, creates a more comfortable surface).

While this is purely art (that turned out to be functional), it shows that with a little creativity, you can turn something that traditionally represents discomfort into an object of function and even comfort.
