Remember the days when Mother's Day meant getting out the craft paper and making a awesome card? Given the turbulent economy and our desire to be green, why not break out the glue stick again and start crafting for Mom? And no, Mom probably doesn't want a robot on her apron but I'm sure you could figure out a good alternative...

Here are links to five green easy and inexpensive ideas that range from cheap to free!

Etched Wine Glasses

Pick up some wineglasses from the thrift store and give them a new life with this Instructables. Also, freehand glass etching.

Fuse or Knit Plastic Bags into Totes

Have an abundance of plastic bags? Turn them into a reusable shopping tote or something more substantial. There are two easy options to choose from: knitted or if you have an iron, the fused option below.

Aprons from Vinyl or an Old Pillowcase

Again, two options here the no sew vinyl/ducktape version or the sewing required pillowcase version.

Lightbulb Mini-Greenhouse

Give those retired incandescent light bulbs a new life as a mini-greenhouse. See how here.

Wooden Votives Candle Holder

Using nothing more than a drill bit (a forsner would be preferred) and some spare tree limbs, you can hollow out some nice looking voltive holders.

I xeriscaped a corner of Mom's yard! Okay, so it was an excuse to buy plants I don't have room for myself. But it was fun and she loved it and there's so much more bang for your buck than cut flowers.

I've seen the light bulb here before and it's really really not going to last long with a fast-growing mint in it. I'm just now trying one hanging upside down and dropping a cutting of a slow-growing crassula in it... we'll see how that works. Maybe by next year, I could give it to Mom, but I rather like it myself, heh heh heh.
