Furniture from Recycled Oil Drums

There's been beautiful furniture from bicycle parts, an excellent washing machine table and now, there's furniture from recycled oil drums!

10-22-08-oilfurniture4.jpgJust this past weekend, I was at an outdoor cafe that had a couple warming fires in oil drums. I have no idea where one would find an oil drum, but these folks at Stanker Design have certainly found a few, and done some interesting things with them.

Created by Francois Royer, a graphic artist and teacher, "Royer's approach is an ecological as well as an artistic response to a relentlessly consuming, throw-away society. The design of all these creations is based on a philosophy of recycling and of economy in use of materials and production methods that emphasizes aesthetics as well as respect for the environment."
