Here's an idea that's green in more ways than one. Apartment Therapy reader Amida wrote in to show us how her family re-uses an amazing variety of containers to house seedlings for their kitchen garden. If you're short on outdoor garden space, it's inspiring to be reminded of how much you can grow using any old container, some dirt, seeds, and a sunny window ledge. As an added bonus, these repurposed vessels look pretty cute, too...
Amida writes on her blog Journey into Unschooling:
We started our seeds in anything from plastic take-out containers (which make excellent mini-greenhouses), tin cans, egg cartons, yogurt cups, and pasta sauce jars... For support, we sinked craft sticks, dowels, and disposable chopsticks to the containers and simply held the plants in place with twist ties. Clothes pins -- either the spring or old fashioned variety -- make for excellent markers. Embellish them if you please and attach to the side of the planter.
