Surfboards Made from Wood found Dumpster Diving

4-21-09surf0.jpgMost modern day surfboards are made from styrofoam and fiberglass (not the most friendly materials). And while many companies are recycling their waste and extra foam, there's still plenty of waste. We've seen old surfboards repurposed into chairs, but now there's a surfboard maker repurposing garbage into surfboards.

Tom Orlando, of West Palm Beach Florida, decided to recycle shards and splinters of shattered wood into beautiful surfboards. He collects his materials by dumpster diving and blends all kinds of wood to make his creations.

Plenty of buyers use his boards as purely decoration but there are plenty that take them out on the waves, as they were meant to be.
