100% Design London Showcases Sustainable Designs

london-design-showcase.jpg

The 100% Design London showcase, the UK's leading architecture and design event, has just concluded and sustainable designs were as pervasive as ever. Some of the finds from this year's event included flooring made from old belts, deer horns turned into mosaic tile, outdoor seating that works after a rain, and Brazilian tiles made from coconut shells...

While all design, green or not, was the focus of 100% Design London, sustainable designs were as prevalent as ever. Here are some of our picks:

Motley drums, pictured below, creates drum-like forms made from solid reclaimed cedar, and oak batons designed to be used as tables and seating.

Ting London's leather belt flooring, pictured below, is a new re-working of vintage leather belts to create a beautiful, glossy and hard wearing surface. Available by the square foot, the subtly patterned attractive material is also suitable for table and bar tops, walls and feature areas, as well as floors.

Ultraleather is a fake leather that offers advantages over the real thing without all the disadvantages (like PVC) of traditional fake leather. It doesn't use toxic additives, but does maintain breathability with mold, mildew and UV resistance.

Coldstar Zero by ACDC Lighting Systems is the world’s first Cold Cathode control lighting that can be dimmed effectively to zero (less than 1%). It also has the very first ‘zero dimming’ control gear with a smooth control of the light output.

Trestlelegs turn any flat board or material into a table, and fold up with ease when done. Similar to a saw horse, but with modern design.

Corium Leather Floors has created a new flooring made of 100% recycled genuine leather and uses cork to enhance the feeling of comfort, warmth and quiet.

Outdoor Seating that can be used instantly after a rainfall by Robert Richardson. Manufactured from bent recycled plastic profiles and injection molded recycled plastic.
