apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

LightsOutLA.org: L.A. County calling for lights-out hour

atlalights_out2.jpg

Here's chance to make a difference for one night: LightsOutLA.org is asking everyone in the city and country to install one compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) and turn off all non-essential lighting for one hour, on Saturday October 20th, from 8-9pm. Our friends up in San Francisco will be planning the same symbolic energy saving plan, so it's a great opportunity for some state solidarity in the name of conservation.

Are you guys sure your system can stand such a "sudden" and extreme fluctuation? Has someone done this successfully elsewhere with the same system or combination of systems? How old are some of these systems? As this paragraph already indicates, I'd be buying some kind of independent system for my home when this happens. Good luck apartment dwellers!
