Shake Control Remote Control: No Batteries

Even if they're rechargeable, batteries are just...not...green. Unfortunately they power many of the gadgets that make our life much more comfortable, like our TV's remote control. Despite our love of everything Mad Men, the idea of going back to a time when you had to get your butt off of the couch or out of your warm bed to change the channel or the volume is so not appealing. Hmm...how to reconcile convenience with conscience? The answer's in a remote control that's powered by a flick of the wrist...

Hold down the button and shake the clear ergonomically-designed device. A magnet provides a surge of power each time. A few months of this and we'd have arms to rival Madonna's and might give new meaning to the term couch potato.

This appears to be legit. But a lot of these shake products that run on electromagnetic induction are not. My roommate got a flashlight that appears to work by the same principle. But shaking it never seemed to affect the intensity of the light, and the coil of wires didn't seem to be connected to anything. Finally we left it on for two days straight. It got dim, and no amount of shaking it could get the light bright again. It's fake, with a tiny battery hidden inside the machinery.
