Skystream

Despite some really miserable weather, we made it out to the City of Berkeley's Green Home Expo this weekend.

There were a lot of interesting things to touch, read about, and gawk at (from electric cars to solar power) and we walked home with pamphlets bulging out of our pockets.

One of the sleekest looking products we learned about was Skystream, a compact residential wind turbine.

Their tagline is "Produce electricity in your own backyard" and, seeing as we don't have a backyard, it's really not the practical for us ... yet.

However, the Skystream is supposed to pay for itself within five years ... and it's clean, good looking energy. So, if we ever have the minimal acreage it takes to accommodate one of these things, we'll definitely consider it.

It's cool stuff -- take a look at this 3D product demo.

Good looking is in the eye of the beholder.

I have a lot of beneficial bats and eagles hanging out (no pun intended) in my yard and neighborhood. Won't this thing cut them if they fly too close? Ish. Why don't they make one with a cage around it like my household fan?
