We know old-fashioned message taking has gone the way of the dinosaur in most homes. (We don't even have a landline.) But we still like these little message centers by Etsy seller OldNewAgain...
These Kitchen Message Centers by OldNewAgain ($25) are made with old pine boxes and jelly jars. They come in a variety of colors and we think they'd be perfect near the front door.
Once you've taken care of your junk mail problem, all the good stuff could be stored in the little box until you're ready to deal with it.

I think it could be really cute if you got a small piece of blackboard/chalkboard to put in the message slot, so you could leave nice messages for your other half / housemates / guests. The only 'rule' for it being it's for nice stuff only - a little smileboard :-)
