10_09_09_logo.jpgThis weekend, 14 of Austin's most stunning homes will be on display for the (paying) public as part of the American Institute of Architects Austin Homes Tour. Not only do these homes inspire decor; they also utilize the very best in green technology...

The tour is bringing something new to the table this year; Many of the homes come with Austin Energy Green Building ratings. According to the Austin American-Statesman:

Two years ago, you would've seen more traditional-based styling, whereas today you'll find modern-influenced designs that not only meet the needs of the client, but also consider the surrounding environment's voice.

From soy- and denim-based insulation, to solar hot water systems, to recycled metal roofs, these architects say that while this isn't a green homes tour, good design is often environmentally responsible.

Advance tickets available for sale at three venues in Austin, $25. Tickets during the tour are $30. For more information, go to the AIA Homes Tour site.

How do I always end up going out of town when these things take place? In any case, I'm glad to know there is a shift with the homes on the tour being examples of eco-friendliness. It's a good indicator of the community's growing interest in being environmentally responsible.
