This week, we were thrilled to visit a new farmers' market in our neighborhood. Located below an olive grove and Frank Lloyd Wright's Hollyhock House at Barnsdall Art Park, the market has about 20 produce vendors and we found a beautiful selection of summer fruits, vegetables, and other goodies – peaches, figs, corn, tomatoes, honey ... What are you seeing at your farmers' market in early August?

Plums, pluots, and nectarines – we looked at the pluots with even more interest than usual after reading Faith's review of The Perfect Fruit

Figs and honey – we're thinking Roasted Figs with Honey and Rosemary

Peaches and tomatoes – a delicious pairing!

Avocados and corn – we bought these to make charred corn guacamole

Pattypan squash and nopales (cactus pads)

A fresh seafood stand, plus meat, cheese, and other gourmet products from the Gourmet On Wheels truck. There are also vendors selling bread, eggs, fruit juice, and prepared foods.

Sponsored by the Los Angeles Medical Center, the farmers' market is held in the Barnsdall Art Park parking lot on Wednesdays from noon to 7 p.m. (recently extended from 6 p.m. to accommodate more shoppers after work).

Kaiser sponsors this market? Awesome. My dad worked at that hospital for 45 years. I spent a good deal of time playing at Barnsdall too. This is a great location for those walking off Los Feliz or Edgemont.
