Tara Murray: Industrial Design

As a recent graduate of the University of Calgary's Industrial Design masters program, Tara Murray's thesis project focused on the effort "to maintain emotional connectedness to older products through new design." This Doily Chair, for example, is an exploration in pairing an outdated object (like your grandma's parlor chair doilies) with a modern and contemporary piece.

Other works include Take Note, her handbag display piece made out of walnut and reused architectural plotter paper tubes; the Plaid Tea Cozy, a reexamination of the traditional lumberjack pattern into a feminine and delicate teapot cozy; and Maguagadavic Lake Sauna, a small refuge in the New Brunswick countryside custom designed and built from locally harvested materials.

Wow, her stuff is cool! That doily chair is gorgeous as an art piece--don't think I'd want to be the one to sit on it first.
