A Composting Trashcan: Envi by Julien Bergignant

9-23-2009compost.jpg

We love composting because it reduces food waste and it's good for things that grow. So we're liking this idea for a public trashcan that processes the food that's tossed into it into compost, and then shows off a little greenery...

The Envi by Julien Bergignant is a complicated little trashcan (which uses something called bio-reactive substances" to speed-up the composting process).

We're a little fuzzy on how the whole thing works. But we can say that we like the concept. We'd feel better tossing our banana peel in a city trashcan if we knew it was going to help grow something that would make the sidewalk a bit more beautiful.
