A Living Hydroponic Home in Paris

2-24-09paris1.jpg

This 1400 square foot concrete home to a family of four in Paris, dubbed "Lost in Paris", is covered by 1200 ferns which are fed through 300 hand-blown glass pods via an elaborate hydroponic system. The blanket of ferns regulates the inside temperatures and creates quite the display. Plenty of photos after the jump...

The structured, designed by R&Sie architects, took five years to complete (and the permission of 66% of their neighbors!). The 300 hydroponic beaker feeders which line the perimeter were created specifically for this house and are mechanically fed with a liquid mix of bacteria, drop by drop, and mixed with collected rain water.

Beneath the blanket of ferns is a concrete structured covered in a thin plastic shell and polyurethane coat for insulation. I wish there were more photos of their furniture and living quarters, because I'm sure they've got to be pretty exciting as well.
